What type of visa should an intern apply for?

Similar to the visa requirements of other short-term educational camps, a travel visa would be necessary for the on-site component of the internship.

Will the research institute (internship provider) be able to issue a letter of invitation to attend the research internship?

Yes, an invitation letter will be provided to facilitate the visa process.
